The Indian Meteorological Department has announced that the much-awaited monsoon has returned to North India, bringing relief from the recent humid heat. After a brief hiatus, the rainy season is back, with rains reported in several states including the National Capital Region. According to the weather agency, the monsoon system has regained its intensity and substantial rainfall is expected in the coming days. Northwestern states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive thunderstorms, lightning and moderate to heavy rains in the next five days. Meteorological department officials have issued a landslide warning in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and asked people to remain alert. With humidity levels likely to rise and the sky expected to remain cloudy in the region, the capital Delhi is likely to have cloudy skies and light rain on Friday.
Heavy rain expected in Uttar Pradesh
Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh said, “The weather in Uttar Pradesh is going to change from Friday. After two days of heat and humidity, the monsoon will gain strength and heavy rain is expected in most parts of the state including the capital Lucknow.” He said that a storm warning has been issued in many areas of the state.
The recent rains have come as a relief to the residents of North India, who were battling scorching heat and humidity. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the current weather conditions are likely to continue till July 24, with a yellow alert issued for July 21 and 22 and a green alert for the rest of the days.
