UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni has resigned due to personal reasons before his tenure ends in May 2029, official sources said today on Saturday. His resignation was also “not in any way related to the controversies and allegations related to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)” and his decision was taken in connection with the resignation of trainee IAS officer Pooja Kethkar before the issue.
“The UPSC chairman resigned a fortnight ago due to personal reasons. It has not been accepted yet,” said a top official. Manoj Soni reportedly sent his resignation letter to the President a month ago. If this letter is accepted by President Drabupati Murmu, it is expected that he will be released from registration immediately.
Eminent educationist Manoj Soni (59), joined the UPSC commission in 2017. He took oath as UPSC Chairman on May 16 last year. His term ends on May 15, 2029. But recently, training I.A.S. Before being appointed to UPSC, Manoj Soni has served three terms as Vice-Chancellor. From August 1, 2009 to July 31, 2015, he served two consecutive terms as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Gujarat. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), Baroda from April 2005 to April 2008. At the time of joining MSU, Soni was the youngest ever Vice-Chancellor in India.
Soni, in Political Science specializing in International Relations, taught International Relations at Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar between 1991 and 2016. Sony has received many recognitions and awards and has a significant number of publications.
UPSC It is headed by the Chairman and can have a maximum of ten members. It may be noted that at present, UPSC has seven members, which is three less than its sanctioned strength.
