Indira Rana, Deputy Speaker of the lower house of Nepal's Parliament, the House of Representatives, has been accused of getting American visas for some people in exchange for money. For this, she had written a recommendation letter to the American Consulate. After this letter became public, the ruling party has demanded the removal of Rana from her post.
According to the letter circulated in the media, Indira Rana had written a recommendation letter to the US Embassy to grant visas to some people to go to the US for an NGO event. Some of the people whose names are in her letter have also accused her of recommending visas in exchange for a large sum of money. However, Deputy Speaker Rana has rejected these allegations. She said that the letter circulated in the media is fake.
Party sources also told the media that a complaint regarding this matter was lodged three months ago in the party to which the deputy speaker is associated. It has been claimed that a written complaint has also been lodged in the party against Ravi Lamichhane's Rashtriya Swatantra Party MP Indira Rana. Those who got the visa by paying money claim that they paid Rs 25 to 30 lakh per person, after which Rana wrote a letter to the US Embassy.
According to the letter circulated in the media, Indira Rana has written a letter to the US Consulate, saying that she is taking half a dozen people with her to an NGO program and has recommended to give them visas. It has been said in this letter that all those accompanying her work in the social sector of Nepal and it is essential for them to attend this program in America.
After this letter written by the Deputy Speaker became public, the leaders of the ruling party have demanded the removal of Rana from the post. Nepali Congress General Secretary Vishwaprakash Sharma said that this is a clear case of human trafficking and Indira Rana should be immediately removed from the post of Deputy Speaker due to her involvement in this case. Chief Whip of the ruling CPN (UML) Mahesh Bartaula said that the party which always points fingers at other parties and the party whose leader Ravi Lamichhane teaches morality to other leaders, all the leaders in his own party are getting embroiled in controversies one after the other.
