New Delhi: After a brief pause in rainfall, the monsoon has made a comeback in the Delhi-NCR region, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. However, the recent spell of minimal rain had left residents struggling with intense humidity and high temperatures. But, to good news, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted renewed monsoon activity, with rains expected to continue in the coming days. According to the weather department, Delhi, along with Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad can expect overcast skies and light showers today. The weather department has predicted intermittent cloud cover throughout the day, with a chance of thundercloud formation and sporadic rain. Today’s maximum temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may hover around 29 degrees Celsius.

Thursday’s light rain brings temporary relief
On Thursday, some areas experienced brief afternoon showers. As per IMDs data, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above the normal average, while the minimum temperature was 29.6 degrees Celsius, also two degrees higher than usual. Humidity levels ranged from 63 per cent to 94 per cent. Rainfall measurements included 4.3 mm at Safdarjung, 4.8 mm at Palam, 0.8 mm at Lodhi Road, and drizzle at Ridge. Other areas like Aya Nagar saw 13.3 mm, Pusa received 1 mm, Jafarpur had 0.5 mm, and Pitampura recorded 42 mm of rain.

Despite the brief respite from the heat brought by the rain, the humidity surged again in the evening once the showers ceased. The IMD forecasts cloudy skies and light rain for Saturday, July 20, as well.
Weather outlook for the next three days
For Saturday, July 20, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 36 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius. Light to moderate rains are anticipated on July 21 and 22, with a yellow alert issued for these days. Temperatures are predicted to range between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius for the maximum, and 27 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius for the minimum.
