The parking area at Sarai Kale Khan will be conveniently located on the ground floor beneath the elevated concourse, integrating seamlessly with the Ring Road and nearby Delhi Metro station for easy access. Collectively, the 25 stations will offer parking for over 1,600 cars and 6,500 two-wheelers.

An effort to enhance public transport: NCRTC

An NCRTC spokesperson emphasised that these upgrades are designed to decrease reliance on private vehicles, aiming to reduce traffic accidents and lower air pollution. The spokesperson explained, “Our Namo Bharat train services connect key regional hubs within the National Capital Region (NCR). With stations strategically placed every 5 to 10 kilometres, we’re making it easier for commuters to choose public transport.”

Parking charges for private vehicles

Parking will be free for the first 10 minutes, allowing for drop-offs and pick-ups. Fees beyond this period are Rs 5 for bicycles, Rs 10 for two-wheelers, and Rs 25 for cars for up to six hours. For longer durations, charges will be Rs 5 for bicycles, Rs 25 for two-wheelers, and Rs 50 for cars for six to 12 hours. Beyond 12 hours, fees increase to Rs 10 for bicycles, Rs 30 for two-wheelers, and Rs 100 for cars. Night parking during non-operational hours will cost Rs 20 for bicycles, Rs 60 for two-wheelers, and Rs 200 for cars.

RRTS to increase public transport usage from 37% to 63%

Currently, an operational 34 km section of the RRTS serves the public, with eight stations offering parking. Future plans include additional features such as dedicated parking for auto rickshaws and accessible spots for specially-abled individuals, complete with ramps. NCRTC is also focusing on enhancing last-mile connectivity and exploring various feeder services. The full Delhi-Meerut corridor is expected to increase public transport usage from 37 per cent to 63 per cent. Additionally, battery-swapping stations will be introduced to support electric vehicles and improve transport efficiency.

It is also noteworthy that currently, the Namo Bharat train services run over a 34 km stretch between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North. With the upcoming completion of the Meerut South RRTS station, the operational length will extend to 42 km by the end of the year, with the Delhi section slated to open by mid-2025.
