New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) Flights are being delayed at airports due to a glitch in Microsoft's global cloud service. India has also been affected by this glitch, where flights had to be cancelled at many airports. To deal with this situation, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu had to issue a statement to reassure passengers. Cyber experts have demanded a global investigation into this matter.
Cyber expert Amit Dubey said that Microsoft is the backbone of any IT infrastructure. This is not just an attack on a company or a country, but it will affect many businesses. This may affect airlines, healthcare, railways and maybe even your electricity. Its losses can be up to multi trillion dollars in the world.
He said that Microsoft has said that the reason behind this is a technical flaw, but cloud servers are designed in such a way that they can never be taken down like this. There may not be any small technical flaw behind this, but there may be some state invested body, whose work may be this. There should be a global level investigation for this. The US and Microsoft will always make the excuse that this is a matter of our national security and we cannot let you investigate like this. But at this time it is a matter of national security of many countries. If many countries are getting affected, then there should be a global level investigation.
Emphasizing on developing an alternative to Microsoft, he said, till now we used to follow Microsoft blindly, but now people would like to have some other company as well. There should not be complete dependence on just one company. This dependence will suddenly bring the whole world to its knees. It also has to be seen whether Microsoft will pay a penalty in this case? If yes, will it pay a penalty in all the countries? At present nothing is clear on this, so now both the process and policy will change. The government rules will change in the direction of who needs to take responsibility in such incidents.
On this matter, another cyber expert Pawan Duggal said that a global case of cyber security breach has come to light. Somewhere it can also be linked to the case of cyber terrorism. There is panic all over the world. The purpose behind this is to spread fear and panic among the people. Somewhere people are also raising questions on the government. The reason for this is not the government, but we people, who have forgotten the importance of cyber security.
