The Bangladesh government on Friday imposed a nationwide curfew and deployed military forces to maintain order after deadly unrest spread across the country.
Hasina's press secretary Naeemul Islam Khan told AFP, "The government has decided to impose a curfew and deploy the army to assist civil authorities."
He said the curfew would come into effect immediately. According to AFP, 105 people have died in clashes between student protesters and police, while at least 1,500 people have been injured.
Telecommunication services were disrupted in the capital Dhaka and television news channels went off air. All public gatherings have been banned in the capital city.
The government has also ordered the shutdown of mobile internet networks to curb the ongoing unrest.
