Hamirpur, 22 July (HS). This year, farmers have started cultivating maize in the entire Bundelkhand region. These days, farmers have camped in the fields to sow maize and other Kharif crops. This time, the Agriculture Department has not been able to provide maize seeds to the farmers because seeds of maize and other crops are missing from the government seed warehouse.
Progressive farmers Raghuveer Singh and Rishi Shukla said that the cost of maize cultivation is very low but the profit is double. Its crop can be grown even in less water. Next year the area of maize cultivation will be increased further.
Deputy Director Agriculture Harishchandra Bhargava said that the government has increased the scope of maize cultivation in Bundelkhand's Chitrakoot Dham Banda division. This year farmers are sowing maize in 24 hectares of area. In some places maize has already been sown. Last year maize was cultivated in 11 hectares of area but this time farmers are sowing maize crop in 13 hectares more area as compared to last year.
After the rains in Bundelkhand's Chitrakoot Dham Banda division, the farmers have camped in the fields to sow Kharif crops. The Deputy Director of Agriculture told that this time in the Mahoba district of the division, the farmers have started maize cultivation in the maximum area of ten hectares. Whereas in Hamirpur, maize sowing is being done in five hectares and in Chitrakoot in the minimum area of four hectares. It was told that in Banda district too, the farmers have started maize cultivation in an area of five hectares.
