India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh feels the legacy left behind by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's T20 retirement will be remembered for generations. The duo ended their shortest format careers with T20 World Cup title wins against South Africa in Barbados last month. Arshdeep, who was part of the T20 World Cup-winning team, said their contribution in the batting department has always been an inspiration for cricketers around the world.
Arshdeep said, “Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have left an indelible mark on T20 cricket. Their contribution is immense and their legacy will be remembered for generations. Rohit bhai's explosive batting at the top and his sharp captaincy have set new standards in the format. Virat bhai, with his consistent performances and constant pursuit of excellence, has been a role model for cricketers around the world.”
He said, “His passion, dedication and ability to perform under pressure has inspired many young cricketers, including me. He has shown us what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and his records speak for themselves. Although he is no longer playing T20, his impact on the game will continue to guide and inspire us.” Arshdeep is among the players who made his white-ball debut under Rohit’s captaincy and played all his international cricket under him.
The 25-year-old lauded the opener's tactical skills and called him a “bowlers' captain” who gives his bowlers the freedom to express themselves on the field. “Playing under Rohit Sharma's captaincy has been an incredible experience. Rohit bhai is definitely a complete bowlers' captain. He gives every bowler complete freedom to execute what they want to do on the field. He has a unique way of keeping the dressing room atmosphere light, which really helps in high-pressure situations,” the pacer said. “What I like most about his leadership is his calm demeanor on the field.
He always backs his players, giving us the confidence to play our natural game. His strategic thinking and the way he reads the game is really inspiring. Arshdeep learned a lot from him about handling different match scenarios.” After being rested for the Zimbabwe T20s, Arshdeep will travel to Sri Lanka to play three T20s and as many ODIs, starting July 27.
