- A huge gathering of tribals was held in Mangarh, Rajasthan
- Demand to create Bhil Pradesh by separating 49 districts of 4 states
- This demand can change the political equations of 4 states
A massive gathering of tribals in Rajasthan's Mangarh has raised political tensions from Gujarat to Maharashtra. This Mahasabha was held on Bhil Pradesh, in which the tribals demanded to separate 49 districts of 4 states and form Bhil Pradesh for themselves. Bhil Pradesh's demand is not new, but the way this 108-year-old demand has come out of a closed bottle. So it is being said that the political equations of the 4 states may change.
First understand the demand of Bhil Pradesh
The Dravidian word Veel has been transformed into Bhil. Veel means bow. Bhils are the oldest tribe of India and their population is around 1 crore across the country. There was a demand for a Bhil state in 1913 before independence. At that time, in Mangarh itself, social activist and nomadic Banjara caste Govindgiri with 1500 of his supporters demanded a separate state. He was arrested at that time. People of Bhil community say that when Tamil Nadu can be created for Tamils and Maharashtra for Marathas then why not Bhil Pradesh for Bhils? In the last few years, its demand has increased again in Rajasthan. The reason for this is the rise of Bharatiya Adivasi Party in Dungarpur area. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this party won the Banswada seat in alliance with the Congress.
How will this demand increase BJP's tension?
1. As per the proposed map, 49 districts of 4 states are sought to be included in Bhil region. In which Rajasthan's Banswara, Dungarpur, Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Jhalwara, Rajsamand, Chittogarh, Kota, Baran and Pali and Gujarat's Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Surat, Baroda, Tapi, Navsari, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Sabarkantha, Includes Banaskantha and Bharuch. Includes Indore, Guna, Shivpuri, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Dhar, Dewas, Khandwa, Khargaon, Burhanpur, Barwani and Alirajpur districts of Tezzbuzz and Palghar, Thane, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Balsad districts of Maharashtra. Districts like Surat, Indore, Kota, Thane are also trade centers of their respective states.
2. Bhil region is being demanded by tribal organizations. The number of tribal voters in these states is very high. For example, about 21.1 percent of Tezzbuzz, 14.8 percent of Gujarat, 13.4 percent of Rajasthan and 9.3 percent of Maharashtra are tribals. Which easily affects Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
3. Tribals are very strong in these states also in terms of seats. 45 seats in the 230-seat Tezzbuzz Assembly, 14 in the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly, 25 in the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly and 27 seats in the 182-seat Gujarat Assembly are reserved for tribals. These seats play a major role in making or breaking the government.
4. There is a demand to break up the states and make them Bhil states, in those states there is a BJP and coalition government. There is a demand to include 12 districts of Gujarat in Bhil Pradesh. There are 69 assembly seats in those districts, of which 59 seats are currently held by the BJP.
Similarly, in the districts of Maharashtra where Bhil Pradesh is being sought to be included, there are 58 assembly seats, of which 42 seats are currently held by the NDA. Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra this year and in 2027 in Gujarat. In Rajasthan and Tezzbuzz too, BJP dominates the areas demanding Bhil Pradesh. In such a situation, if this demand comes true, BJP's difficulties may increase in these areas in the future.
What does BJP have to say on Bhil Pradesh's demand?
So far no major leader of Bharatiya Janata Party has made any statement regarding this. However, Rajasthan Government's Tribal Affairs Minister Babu Lal Kharadi has categorically rejected this demand. Kharadi says that statehood cannot be demanded on the basis of caste and religion. While talking to reporters, Kharadi said that the demand of small states for development is right, but not on the basis of caste and religion. This will spoil the structure of the society.
