The Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express, a long-distance train bound for Dibrugarh from Chandigarh, met with a fatal accident on Thursday afternoon. The accident took place near Jhilahi station in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district. So far four passengers have been reported dead. Many passengers were injured.
Cause of accident:
The train driver said he heard a loud bang just before the derailment. The accident is believed to have occurred due to a fault in the track.
Accident Description:
The train left Chandigarh for Dibrugarh at 11:39 pm on Wednesday. The train derailed near Jhilahi station between Gonda and Basti around 2:30 pm on Thursday. Passengers screamed in fear due to the loud noise and shaking of the train. The derailed coaches overturned.
Rescue and Investigation:
The rescue workers reached the spot quickly and started rescuing the injured. The dead bodies were recovered. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the accident.

Government Assistance:
The government has announced to give financial assistance of Tk 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Tk 2.5 lakh per head of the injured.
50 thousand rupees will be given to those who have minor injuries.
