The chief minister gave a deadline of one month to vacate the thousands of illegal shops and settlements that have come up encroaching on footpaths and government land. But within 'one month' new illegal shops have been reported in New Town. It is alleged that overnight shops are being set up in various important places, especially in Action Area 2 and 3.
Complaints:
Some of them are building shophouses in a few hours by laying thrips on the bamboo rice paddies and fencing them.
Others bring 'ready-made' shops made of wood and tin and set them up on both sides of the road in the dark of night.
Allegedly, new shops are being set up while the NKDA operation is going on.
NKDA statement:
No shops, stalls can be placed encroaching on roads, footpaths, green verges, islands, parking lots.
If you want to do business, you have to sit in the market created by NKDA.
Hawker Rehabilitation:
Ten hawkers markets have already been opened in Action Area 1 and 2 for the resettlement of squatters in New Town.
NKDA has constructed a market complex near Sapurji Bus Stand in Action Area 3.
Also three new markets are being created.
