A devoted The Last of Us Part 2 fan shared a tattoo inspired by one of the most touching moments between fan-favorites Joel and Ellie. Since the franchise’s debut in 2013, there’s been no shortage of praise for the character dynamics between its original protagonists, with fans and critics alike lauding how the first game’s narrative solidified Joel and Ellie’s father-daughter bond. While the duo’s time together was tragically cut short in the sequel, The Last of Us Part 2 still featured plenty of charming and memorable moments between both characters that live on in fans’ hearts.
It would be difficult to overstate the widespread frustration and pain most fans felt after Joel’s death in The Last of Us Part 2. The sudden loss of arguably the most pivotal character in the franchise shocked players in the days following the sequel’s release. Reddit user platinumgamher posted a picture of their new tattoo to the r/thelastofus subreddit, which was inspired by Joel and Ellie’s trip to the dilapidated Wyoming Museum of Science and History. The tattoo itself appears to be an image of a Tyrannosaurus rex skull with a stockman hat. Apart from a charming design, the tattoo also contains a clever reference to a scene where Joel and Ellie placed a similar hat over several dinosaur heads while they trekked through the ruins of the museum.

This wasn’t the first time a fan of The Last of Us was inspired by the game’s narrative and chose to immortalize the franchise in their own unique way. Previously, another The Last of Us Part 2 fan also showcased an anime-style tattoo of Ellie, which transformed her design from The Last of Us Part 2 into something that looked straight out of a cover for Shonen Jump.
Though Joel’s death was one of the most gut-wrenching moments in The Last of Us Part 2the sequel still featured plenty of scenes that even the most bitter fans can remember with fondness.
