“Embassy @indembkwt expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic death of Mr Mathews Mulakkal, his wife and 2 children in a fire at their flat in Abassia last night. The Embassy is in touch with his family and will ensure early repatriation of the mortal remains,” the Indian mission said in a post on Twitter.
The incident took place in Abbasiya, Kuwait on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as Mathew Muzhakkal, his wife Lini Abraham and their children Isaac and Erin. The family had left for Kuwait on Thursday night after their holidays.
“Mathew has been working there for the past 15 years. His wife is a nurse. The children are studying there. They left from Nedumbassery on Thursday night after their holidays,” a relative told the media on Saturday.
On the other hand, the victim's family has not yet received any official confirmation of the bodies reaching their hometown. Matthew's family consists of his mother and three siblings. According to preliminary information, the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the AC installed in the room. Detailed information is awaited. More than 40 Indian migrant workers died in a fire in a building last month. After that their bodies were brought to India.
