The Indian cricket team reached Sri Lanka on Monday (22 July) for its new mission. The four-day conference of the International Cricket Council (ICC) also ended here. All 108 members participated in it. Many big decisions were taken during this meeting, of which 3 were major.
Recently, news came that organizing the T20 World Cup in America has been a loss-making deal for the ICC. During the tournament, more money was spent there than the budget. In such a situation, a big decision was taken regarding this in the ICC meeting.
To review this matter, ICC formed a three-member committee, which includes Roger Twose, Lawson Naidu and Imran Khawaja. This committee will submit its report by the end of the year. Only after this report, a correct decision can be taken regarding the loss.
Notice to US and Chile boards
In the ICC meeting, it was also decided to issue notices to two cricket boards. Notices were issued to Cricket USA and Cricket Chile for not meeting the criteria for ICC membership.
However, the ICC has also given relief to both the cricket boards. They have got 12 months' time in which they can make improvements. The ICC said, 'Neither of the two members is in a capable position to run the administration. The ICC Americas office will work to help Cricket Chile.'
The number of teams will increase in Women's T20 World Cup
In the meeting, approval has also been given to increase the number of teams in the Women's T20 World Cup. A total of 16 teams will participate in this tournament from the 2030 edition. 10 teams will participate in the next World Cup and 12 teams will play in the 2026 edition. For this, 31 October 2024 will be the last date to qualify.
The first Women's T20 World Cup was played in 2009 and then 8 teams were involved. After this, 10 teams started playing from 2016. The ICC has announced 8 regional qualifying places for the T20 World Cup to be held in India-Sri Lanka in 2026.
Will the Indian team go on a tour to Pakistan?
It was expected that in this ICC meeting, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi could talk to BCCI secretary Jay Shah about the Champions Trophy 2025 to be hosted by them. But this remained only speculation and no discussion took place about it.
Let us tell you that the Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan next year, for which 6 teams have agreed to go to Pakistan. But the situation is not clear regarding the Indian team's visit. In such a situation, there is a possibility of organizing the tournament under a hybrid model. There was no discussion on this issue in the ICC meeting. Only the tournament budget was passed in it.
