Kuwait City: Local media reported that the number of expatriates in the government and private sectors in Kuwait is increasing. According to the report, official statistics released by the Public Authority for Civil Information show that there has been a significant decrease in the number of national workers in the private sector in Kuwait during the six months from January to the end of June 2024.
The national workforce in the private sector has fallen to 72,086 by mid-2024. It was 72,231 at the end of December 2023. A shortfall of 145 workers was recorded during the period. But the national workforce has increased in the government sector. 397,790 at the end of December 2023 and 404,395 by mid-2024. An increase of 6,605 workers.
Statistics show that there has been an increase in the number of expatriate workers in the private sector. Their number increased from 1,562,492 at the end of 2023 to 1,589,525 by mid-2024. This was an increase of 27,033 workers.
The number of expatriate workers in the government sector rose from 111,147 at the end of last year to 112,002 by mid-2024. Khaled Al Enisi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Private Sector Workers Union, expressed concern over the shortage of national workers in the private sector.
