Sixes Ban in Cricket: England-based Southwick and Shoreham Cricket Club has banned players from hitting sixes. A very interesting story is hidden behind this ban. The decision has been taken after people living near the ground complained of damage to their property. Apart from this, cases of injury to people who came to watch the match and damage to vehicles are increasing.
To get rid of this problem, this cricket club has made a strange rule. Whenever a player hits the first six, it will be treated as a warning and the player of the team who hit the six will not get any runs. After that the players will be declared out on hitting sixes. The club's treasurer has also taken notice.
Informing about the decision, Mark Broxup, treasurer of Southwick and Shoreham Cricket Club, said the rule was made to avoid costs due to insurance claims and legal action. he said, "Cricket used to be played in a quiet atmosphere in the olden days. But after the advent of T20 and limited overs cricket, the game has started to show more aggression. In fact, an 80-year-old man who lives near the stadium said that nowadays the players are so enthusiastic that the stadium is getting smaller to hit sixes against them. >
After this new and strange rule came out, the players are constantly protesting. A batsman said hitting sixes is the hallmark of the game, how can it be banned. It was also claimed that an attempt was being made to remove excitement from cricket matches. On the other hand, a player said that nowadays everyone is only concerned about health. Insurance companies are making huge profits from sports clubs due to damage to stadiums.
