New Delhi. The Supreme Court today put an interim stay on the order of the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments to put nameplates on their shops on the Kanwar Yatra route. The Supreme Court today issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments in this matter and sought a reply by July 26. Now the next hearing of this case will be on July 26.
You should also know that this stay imposed on the orders of the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is interim and not final, the further decision will be taken on July 26, but on what basis did the Supreme Court take today's decision and what arguments were put forward in the Supreme Court during the hearing in this case today and whether this decision is a big setback for Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh and Dhami government of Uttarakhand, you should also know that.
The Supreme Court today heard the case of the Uttar Pradesh government's order to hotels on the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners. The petition was filed in the court by the NGO Association of Protection of Civil Rights. A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Rai and Justice SVN Bhatti heard the case.
Jayant Chaudhary spoke openly against Yogi government's decision on Kavad Yatra, said this big thing, watch the full video @myogiadityanath @BJP4UP @jayantrld @rldparty#KanwarYatra #KanwarYatra2024 #YogiAdityanath #JayantChaudhary #JayantChaudharyonkanwaryatra #BJP #RLD pic.twitter.com/P5MEvcbjs6

The Supreme Court asked whether it was a press statement or a formal order that these should be displayed? The counsel for the petitioners replied that first there was a press statement and then there was outrage among the people and they say it is voluntary but they are strictly enforcing it. The counsel said that there is no formal order, rather the police are taking strict action. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the petitioner, said that this is a pseudo order.
Senior advocate CU Singh, representing one of the petitioners, said, “Most of the people are very poor vegetable and tea stall owners and will be financially dead if they are subjected to such economic boycott. Shopkeepers have faced bulldozer action for not complying.”
The Supreme Court told Singhvi that we should not describe the situation in such a way that what is on the ground is exaggerated. These orders also have the dimensions of safety and hygiene.
Singhvi says that Kanwad Yatras have been taking place for decades and people of all religions including Muslims, Christians and Buddhists help them on their way. Now you are boycotting a particular religion.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi further said, “There are so many pure vegetarian restaurants which are run by Hindus and they may have Muslim staff as well, can I say I will not go there and eat because the food is touched by Muslims or Dalits in some way or the other? Singhvi says the directive says “svechchha se” (willingly) but where is the voluntariness?
After the Muzaffarnagar police directed all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday extended it to the entire state. Earlier this week, the Muzaffarnagar police had issued an order that shopkeepers along the Kanwar Yatra route should put up nameplates on their shops so that Kanwariyas know the name of the shopkeeper.
This order of the Supreme Court is being considered a big setback for the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh and Pushkar Singh Dhami government of Uttarakhand. Now it remains to be seen what reply the governments of both the states file in the hearing to be held in the Supreme Court on this matter on July 26.
