US Election: Just hours after Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 US presidential election and endorsed his vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, former First Lady Michelle Obama's name started trending on the internet as a Democrat to take on Republican rival Donald Trump.
Why Michelle Obama?
In a sudden decision yesterday, 81-year-old Biden endorsed Harris, who is of Indian and African descent, as the new candidate of the Democratic Party. If surveys are to be believed, American voters prefer Michelle Obama as their presidential candidate, according to a recent survey by The Center Square Voters Voice. Since November, she has consistently topped surveys in which voters were asked to choose their preferred candidate.
A survey conducted with Noble Predictive Insights found 24% of Democrat-leaning likely voters would choose Michelle over Kamala, who ranked seventh in that survey with 7%. After Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the White House race, former President Barack Obama praised Biden but refrained from endorsing Harris.
The internet went wild with claims that Michelle Obama was the only person who could “beat Trump” after Biden dropped out of the election. One user on X wrote, “I've heard this many times. People in Chicago are not happy. Is it wise to be in the Windy City during the Democratic Convention?”
