Dharm Desk. Lord Shiva loves the month of Shravan or Sawan very much. In this holy month, Bholenath himself comes to earth to shower his blessings and devotees also please him through various means like Kanwar Yatra etc. in the joy of their worshiper's arrival. There is a lovely mystery hidden behind Lord Shiva's association with Sawan month.
According to mythological beliefs, Lord Shiva came to his in-laws' house for the first time in the month of Sawan, where he was given a grand welcome by innumerable men and women. Pleased with this, Lord Shiva blessed everyone with good wishes.
According to mythological beliefs, Mata Sati, daughter of King Daksha, had vowed that she would accept only Lord Shiva as her husband. When King Daksha did not listen to her, Mata Sati gave up her body and was born as Parvati in the house of Himalaya Raj. After this, Parvati performed severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband.
In this way, after rigorous penance, Parvati got married to Bholenath. After marrying Parvati, Lord Bholenath came to his in-laws' house for the first time on earth in the month of Sawan and was pleased with the grand welcome of lakhs of men and women there and showered his blessings on everyone.
According to Sanatan faith, after his marriage with Parvati, Lord Shiva comes to earth every year in the month of Sawan and blesses his devotees. Since then, there are more religious pilgrimages related to the mountains in the month of Sawan. Lakhs of devotees bring Gangajal from Haridwar and perform the Abhishek of Bholenath on Sawan Shivratri. Kanwariyas are considered to be the followers of Lord Shiva.
