The Omkareshwar Temple in the middle of the Narmada River in Tezzbuzz, India is a very special pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Shiva. This is the reason why devotees come here throughout the year to visit this temple. There is a belief about the temple that Mahadev plays Chopat with Mother Parvati in the temple. Apart from this, it is also said that after visiting the three worlds, Mahadev comes here to sleep.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is located on the banks of the Narmada River at a distance of about 78 km from the city of Indore in Tezzbuzz. Mahadev is worshiped here in the form of Mamleswar and Amleswar. According to religious belief, Lord Shiva resides here along with 33 crore deities. Lord Shiva's aarti is performed for three periods in the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple morning, midday and evening. However, Shayan Aarti of Omkareshwar temple is world famous. It is said that Lord Shiva comes here every night to sleep.
Special importance of Omkareshwar temple
It is said that Mahadev plays Chopat with Mother Parvati every day in this temple. This is the reason why 'chopat' is spread here at night and then everyone is kicked out of the market and closed. But when the temple doors open in the morning, Chaucer and his face are found scattered. Devotees visit this temple during Shivratri and Savan months.
The nearest airport to Omkareshwar is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore. This airport is well connected to major cities of India. A taxi can be hired to reach Omkareshwar after landing at Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport. The airport is about 80 km from the temple. In such condition it takes about 2 hours to reach here.
How to reach Omkareshwar by train?
The nearest railway station to Omkareshwar Temple is Omkareshwar Road Railway Station. Although it is a small station it connects major railway junctions like Indore Junction and Khandwa Junction. Trains run from cities like Indore and Bhopal to Omkareshwar Road railway station.
Taxis are easily available from Indore to Omkareshwar. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to reach the temple from Indore depending on traffic and road conditions. Taxis can also be hired from Ujjain to Omkareshwar. You can also reach the temple in your private vehicle.
