New Delhi. Every day, cases of road accidents are being reported due to carelessness and high speed driving. A large number of such accidents are also found to be caused by underage driving. Driving a vehicle below the age of 18 is called underage driving and in India it is legally a crime.
If caught driving underage, a fine is imposed on the minor driver as well as the parents or guardians. In view of the increasing cases of underage driving, Noida Traffic Police has now issued a warning to parents.
Warning to parents
In an effort to curb the rising incidence of minor driving, the Gautam Budh Nagar Police Commissionerate has issued a stern warning to parents and guardians. According to an official statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Noida Police emphasised on the illegality and danger posed by minors driving motor vehicles.
The police directive comes amid concerns over safety and compliance with traffic laws, especially after a number of horrific incidents involving minors across the region. The statement said that driving two-wheelers or four-wheelers by underage children under any circumstances is inappropriate and illegal.
A fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed on the parents
Parents or guardians who allow minors to drive without a valid license will face severe penalties. This includes a fine of up to Rs 25,000, possible legal action under Section 125 of the Indian Justice Code, and cancellation of vehicle registration for a period of 12 months. In addition, minors caught driving illegally will be barred from obtaining a driving license until the age of 25.
The campaign involves stringent checking by the traffic police to detect and deter underage driving across the city. The enforcement drive aims to create greater awareness among residents about the consequences of disobeying traffic laws and the importance of ensuring compliance for a safer community.
