Mahindra Thar Roxx is the official name of the production-ready Thar 5-door lifestyle SUV, which is scheduled to launch on 15th August 2024. Unofficial bookings for the model have already commenced at select Mahindra dealerships. Prior to its market arrival, the carmaker has released a teaser video revealing its new double-stacked six-slot grille, replacing the seven-slot unit of the 3-door Thar.
While the circular headlamps have been retained, the units now feature an LED projector setup with C-shaped DRLs. The teaser also shows the SUV’s diamond-cut alloy wheels. Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd., said that the new Thar Roxx has a “premium quotient” along with a “distinctive design” and “advanced technology, enhanced performance, sophistication, and safety.” We have seen its test mules in three different colors – White, Black, and Red.
A few features will be exclusive to the higher trims, including a panoramic sunroof and ADAS tech. Similar to the XUV700, the Mahindra Thar Roxx will have dual 10.25-inch displays (one for the infotainment system and one for instrumentation). Features such as a 360-degree camera, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, and keyless entry will also be onboard. Specifications of the upcoming Thar Roxx are yet to be officially revealed. However, the off-road SUV is reported to arrive with three powertrain options – an entry-level 1.5L diesel (117bhp/300Nm), 2.0L petrol (130bhp/300Nm), and 2.2L diesel (150bhp/300Nm). Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered. The lower variants will come with the RWD drivetrain setup similar to the 3-door Thar, while the higher trims will get the 4X4 layout.
When launched, the new Mahindra Thar Roxx will compete against the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Its prices are expected to start around Rs 15 lakh onwards. Official details of this lifestyle off-road SUV will be revealed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
