She went to England at the age of 9
Devika Rani was a bold and carefree actress. She was the first to kiss onscreen in a film released in 1933. She did this kissing scene in the film 'Karma'. Devika Rani was born on 30 March 1908 in Visakhapatnam. She belonged to a very rich family. Devika Rani's mother was Rabindranath Tagore's niece.
When the actress was nine years old, her parents sent her to England. After finishing school, she went to London and did a course in acting-music there. After this, she also did a course in costume designing and art direction there.

Nazmul Hussain looked very handsome. Devika Rani liked him very much. During the shooting of the film, she fell in love with Nazmul and ran away with him. She left behind her husband, her film and everything else. After a lot of efforts, she was found and she was asked to finish the shooting of the film.
She agreed to complete the film, but this time the hero was changed. Ashok Kumar was cast in the lead role instead of Nazmul Hussain. Devika worked with Ashok Kumar in many films. Most of the films proved to be hits. Devika and Ashok's films like Vachan, Achhut Kanya and Izzat were successful.
