Ahmedabad. Chandipura virus is spreading rapidly in Gujarat. So far, 71 suspected cases have been reported, while 27 people have died. Suspected cases of this virus have been found in 23 districts of the state. These include 8 in Sabarkantha, 4 in Aravalli, 2 in Mahisagar, 5 in Kheda, 4 in Mehsana, 2 in Rajkot, 2 in Surendranagar, 4 in Ahmedabad city, 5 in Gandhinagar, 11 in Panchmahal, 5 in Jamnagar, 4 in Morbi, 2 in Gandhinagar city, 2 in Chhotaudepur, 2 in Dahod, 1 in Vadodara, 1 in Narmada, 02 in Banaskantha, 01 in Vadodara city, 1 in Bhavnagar, 1 in Devbhoomi Dwarka, 1 in Rajkot Corporation and one suspect case has also been reported in Kutch.
1 patient in Sabarkantha, 2 in Aravalli, 2 in Mehsana, 1 in Gandhinagar, 1 in Panchmahal, 1 in Morbi and 1 in Vadodara have been found infected with Chandipura virus. 27 patients have died in 71 suspected cases in Gujarat. These include 2 in Sabarkantha, 3 in Aravalli, 1 in Mahisagar, 2 in Mehsana, 2 in Rajkot, 1 in Surendranagar, 3 in Ahmedabad city, 1 in Gandhinagar, 4 in Panchmahal, 3 in Morbi, 1 in Gandhinagar Corporation, 2 in Dahod, 1 in Vadodara and 1 patient in Devbhoomi Dwarka. 41 patients are admitted in Gujarat and 3 patients have recovered so far. In view of the increasing infection of this virus, the health department teams have examined 121826 persons in a total of 17248 houses.
What is Chandipura virus?
The first case related to this was reported in Maharashtra in the year 1966. This virus was identified in Chandipur, Nagpur, hence it was named Chandipura virus. After this, this virus was reported in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat in the years 2004 to 2006 and 2019. Let us tell you that Chandipura virus is an RNA virus, which spreads most through female phlebotomine fly. Aedes found in mosquitoes are responsible for its spread.
What are the symptoms of Chandipura virus?
Due to Chandipura virus, the patient complains of fever. It has symptoms similar to flu and causes severe encephalitis. Encephalitis is a disease which causes swelling in the brain.
