Even before the Paris Olympics began, this country has suffered a major setback. The 19-year-old captain of the women's artistic gymnastics team, Shoko Miyata, has withdrawn her name. In this regard, the Japanese Gymnastics Association (JGA) said in its statement that she had violated the team's code of conduct by smoking. After this, she withdrew her name.
JGA officials said Miyata arrived in Japan on Thursday after leaving the team's training camp in Monaco for tests that confirmed he had been drinking alcohol. The JGA said only four athletes would now compete instead of five.
The coach and president apologized
JGA President Tadashi Fujita and his personal coach Mutsumi Harada and other officials apologized to the fans for Miyata's actions. They said, 'We sincerely apologize for this.' This time there were high expectations from the Japanese women's gymnastics team. They were expected to win a medal for Japan for the first time since the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
The coach said this in his statement
Regarding this, coach Harada said that it is true that Miyata was careless, but there was a lot of pressure on her to perform. Wiping tears, he said, 'She was spending the last few days under a lot of pressure. I would request people to understand this. Miyata is the current Japanese national champion. This time she was considered a medal contender. She won a bronze medal on beam at the 2022 World Championships. Apart from this, she finished fifth in the all-around competition.
Let us tell you that there is a lot of mental pressure on these players to perform well in the Olympics. Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles also withdrew her name from Tokyo last time.
