Sonipat. Taking a big action in the illegal mining case, the ED team has arrested Congress MLA Surendra Pawar from Sonipat, Haryana. Pawar is accused of carrying out large-scale illegal mining in the Yamunanagar area. The ED is taking Surendra Pawar to the special court in Ambala for remand.
The case pertains to illegal mining worth about Rs 400-500 crore by a syndicate in the Yamunanagar area. The ED took over the investigation last year after the Haryana police registered multiple FIRs against Pawar and others in connection with the illegal mining.
In January this year, the ED raided 20 places of former INLD MLA Dilbagh Singh, Surendra Pawar and other associates. The ED has already arrested Dilbagh Singh and Kulwinder Singh in this case.
Raid was conducted on illegal mining
In fact, in January this year, the ED raided 20 premises in Faridabad, Sonipat, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Chandigarh and Mohali. This raid was related to a case related to large-scale illegal mining of sand, stones and gravel in Yamunanagar and surrounding districts of Haryana. Dilbagh Singh (former MLA) and Surendra Panwar (MLA) and their associates were allegedly involved in this illegal mining.
The ED had initiated its probe based on several FIRs by Haryana police and orders of the National Green Tribunal related to illegal mining activities. The probe revealed illegal mining and sale of minerals by various screening plant owners and stone crushers in Yamunanagar district. This involved evasion tactics like not generating proper e-Ravana bills or fabricating fake documents to evade detection.
