india captain: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the Indian team for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, ending speculation over whether he or Hardik Pandya would be handed the role following Rohit Sharma's retirement.
There has been no official confirmation on whether Suryakumar has been made India's permanent captain in the shortest format. However, the fact that he was chosen for the position despite the presence of Hardik Pandya makes it clear that the world's No. 1 ranked T20I batsman is being seen as Rohit's successor.
Fan reactions to the news on social media have been mixed, with many believing that Pandya deserved the position. However, that doesn't mean there is any kind of hate towards Suryakumar and in his first statement after being made the captain, Suryakumar thanked fans for the love he has received over the last few days.
Suryakumar said in his post on Instagram, “Thank you so much for all the love, support and wishes. The last few weeks have been nothing less than a dream and I am truly grateful. Playing for the country is the most special feeling that I cannot describe in words. This new role brings with it a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm. I hope I continue to get your support and blessings. All the fame is for God, God is great.”
