It takes 3 to 6 months to design the entire film.
How many days does a production designer need to design a film after receiving the script? Munish said, 'If it is a normal film then it takes 3 to 4 months. Whereas for period films it takes more than 6 months.
The production designer also decides the clothes of the actors according to the script of the film. Munish gives the example of his own film 'Paheli' to play a big role as a production designer in any film. Let's explain with. He said, 'This film is made on the background of Rajasthan. The director said that the film has to show the story of the storytellers of Rajasthan. Then I imagined how Vaniya people would have worn clothes at that time. Made the sketch accordingly. The costumes were made after seeing this sketch. Shahrukh Khan was also seen in similar clothes in this film.
Shahrukh wore a turban in the film, Rajasthan has its own history behind it.
You must have seen that Shahrukh is seen wearing a turban in the first film. Munish was the brain behind this also. He said that earlier in Rajasthan men used to wear such big turbans. This is so that if he feels pity in adverse circumstances, he can put it in the well and draw water. During the shooting, Shahrukh had asked what was the meaning of wearing a big and thick turban. Then the sage explained its meaning.
Munish shared with us the first character sketches. The sketch of how the character will be is prepared in advance. After that, work is done on their clothes and styling is done accordingly. The sketch of Shahrukh's character can be seen in the photo.
A sketch of Rani Mukherjee, the lead actress of the film 'Pehli', was also prepared.
Amitabh Bachchan also had a small role in this film. In this film he played the role of Bharwad. His appearance was imagined to be like this (दाबे), which was like this (जमने) in the film.
Munish said that the shooting of the film 'Paheli' was not done at the original location. The entire film was shot in Mumbai's Film City. Munish said, 'We had gone to Rajasthan first. There we completely inspected people's clothes, shops, markets and mansions. After that a set was built accordingly in Film City. We also planted trees inside the film city. Two huge trees were uprooted in Film City. None of the mansions, markets and villages seen in the film were original. All those sets had come to be installed in Film City.
This sketch imagines what the markets might have looked like in earlier times.
Earlier only sketches of mansions were made. Later it was produced in Film City.
Ran made in Film City, brought sand worth Rs 2 crores
There are some fight scenes in the first film. Its entire sequence was also shot in Film City. For this, 300 to 400 trucks of sand were brought and unloaded at Film City. This was not ordinary sand but sand of the desert.
Actually, Shahrukh Khan did not want to go to Rajasthan and shoot in the scorching heat. It was he who gave Munish the idea of making a war set in Film City. Shahrukh said that you can take as much money as you want, but make the set in Film City only. You will be surprised to know that Rs 2 crores were spent on making that battle set.
Shahrukh Khan and Big Bini This huge desert shown in the background is actually the Film City, There was a set made in Mumbai.
The budget of 'Gadar-2' was low, many sets could not be made.
Munish was also responsible for the production design of 'Gadar-2', the third most successful Hindi film of 2023. He said, 'The budget of this film was very low. We didn't have enough money to build many sets. I discussed with director Anil Sharma and started searching for the location. After much research, we have finalized some locations in Lucknow, Himachal Pradesh, Tezzbuzz and Maharashtra. Karya'.
Renovated the bus and converted it into an army tank
The tank shown in 'Gadar-2' was made by renovating a broken bus. Only the top sheet was removed, only the wheels remained. A tank-like fiber was placed over it. A chain of Lokhand was placed below. It was set in such a way that the original wheel of the bus was not visible and while moving the chain It is rotating, so that it looks like a tank.
This tank seen in the background of Sunny Deol was made from an old bus.
Munish said that as a production designer, he worked on everything related to the film in great detail.Yes, yes. Suppose we want to show the army in a film, so we have real army people on the set.Lavishe. Whether the artist wears army dress properly or not, whether there is a gun or tank scene or not, he Whether it can operate properly or not, all these matters are under the guidance of the army officer present there. Is given. This is done so that we do not make any mistakes and the scene looks real.
