The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka in the last week of July, where the team is going to play three T20 and the same number of ODI series. The BCCI announced the team on Thursday for this tour against Sri Lanka. The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has selected the ODI and T20 team keeping in mind the next few years and if these players perform well in the coming time, they will be regular members of the team. Suryakumar Yadav has been chosen as the captain of the T20 team, while Rohit will lead the ODI team. However, a lot of changes have also been seen in the squad, which is a bit surprising.
After Suryakumar Yadav got the T20 captaincy, he has been dropped from the ODI team. Suryakumar has been given a lot of opportunities in ODIs but he could not perform as expected and this is the reason why the selectors are considering other options. Another reason could be that there is a plan to keep Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the team till the T20 World Cup in 2026, so that he can focus on only one format, where he is the world's number-2 batsman.
Suryakumar was struggling to score runs in the ODI World Cup played in India last year. Suryakumar has played 37 matches in this format. He has scored 773 runs at an average of 25.76. Suryakumar has scored 4 half-centuries. Before the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan, India will play only 6 ODI matches and before that Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the team, which clearly means that the selectors want to give a chance to other players. The selectors are eyeing all-rounders who are also capable of bowling.
