England's star all-rounder Sam Curran, playing for Surrey, created a stir by scoring a stormy century against Hampshire in the T20 Blast 2024 match played at Kennington Oval in London on Thursday (18 July). By scoring his first century in the T20 format, Curran single-handedly led Surrey to victory. With this win, Surrey's team has qualified for the quarter-finals.
Chasing the target, Curran came in to bat at number five for Surrey and scored an unbeaten 102 off 58 balls, hitting 7 fours and 6 sixes. When Curran came in to bat, Surrey's score was 27 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Curran shared an 86-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Dominic Sibley (27 runs) and a 54-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Rory Burns (21 runs). Curran kept scoring runs alone from one end and led the team to an easy victory. Curran completed his century by hitting a six on the first ball of the last over of the innings and helped the team cross the threshold of victory.
After being invited to bat first, Hampshire were all out for 183 runs in 19.5 overs. Toby Albert scored the highest 66 runs in the innings. In response, Surrey won by losing 5 wickets in 19.1 overs.
