In India, getting a driving license is a mandatory process that every driver must complete. The first step is to apply for a learning license. This gives you the basic knowledge of driving rules and you can practice driving.

According to the Indian Motor Vehicle Act, you can now apply for your driving license online from the comfort of your home. This process is simple and you do not need to visit any RTO office. You just have to upload the documents online and pay the application fee. After applying for a learning license, you have to give an online test in which your knowledge of traffic signals is tested. After passing this test, you are issued a learning license which formally allows you to drive road transport.

Driving licence process

After a few months of getting the learning license, you have to apply again for the driving test at the RTO. In this test, your driving ability is evaluated.
Only after passing this test you are given the actual driving license.

Once you get a driving license, it needs to be renewed from time to time. The validity of a driving license is renewed when it expires for a certain number of years.
