Suryakumar Yadav has been named the captain of India’s T20I cricket team for their upcoming series in Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain for both T20I and ODI formats.
Suryakumar, a veteran of 68 T20Is, previously captained during matches against Australia and South Africa and has now been entrusted with leadership for the T20 format.
The T20I team welcomes back familiar faces and T20 World Cup participants such as Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Axar Patel, who were absent for the series against Zimbabwe.
While Jasprit Bumrah is taking a break from the upcoming tour, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to participate in the ODIs.
The tour also introduces Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian team, succeeding Rahul Dravid who led the team to a T20 World Cup triumph in 2024.
India’s visit to Sri Lanka for a bilateral series is the first since 2021.
The ODI team includes newcomer Riyan Parag, following his T20I debut in Zimbabwe. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will keep wickets, as Sanju Samson is not part of the squad.
