Google will host its Made by Google event on August 13. At the event, the company will reveal its ‘latest Pixel devices and Android software updates’. Up until now, reports hinted towards the company launching the Pixel 9 series devices, which will include the Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro smartphones, along with Android 15 on August 13. But now, the company has made an announcement that changes everything we knew about the launch of the Pixel 9 series devices.
Google today announced that it will launch its next generation foldable display smartphone, which is being dubbed as the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, on August 14. In a separate post on X (formerly Twitter), the company announced it will also launch the Pixel 9 Pro smartphone on August 14. Take a look at both the posts:

What does this tell us about Google’s Pixel 9 series smartphones and Made by Google event on August 13?
Today’s announcements tell us a lot about the company’s hardware plans. Here is what we think:
— Firstly, Google is serious about launching foldable smartphones. The company launched the Google Pixel Fold last year and now it is planning to launch its second-generation foldable phone in the form of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, indicating that we could see a similar trend in the future as well.
— Secondly, today’s announcement indicates that it is planning to integrate its ultra-premium smartphone series under one umbrella starting this year. This means that Google’s top-notch smartphone series will now include three smartphones – plain and simple Pixel 9, a slightly more powerful Pixel 9 Pro and the dynamic Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This is similar to the line that Samsung has taken in case of its S-series devices, except in this case the ‘Ultra’ model is replaced by the ‘Fold’ one.
— As far as power and performance are concerned, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold are expected to offer somewhat similar specs and features barring the ones constrained by the form factor.
— Now that the company has confirmed that both the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will launch on August 14, it isn’t far-fetched to say that the vanilla Pixel 9 Pro would launch alongside these two phones as a part of the wider series.
— This also means that Google could use its Made by Google event to announce other Google devices, such as streaming sticks, Wi-Fi routers, door locks, doorbells, thermostats and smoke detection alarms, alongside Android 15. It could use August 14 to focus exclusively on the Pixel 9 series.
Pixel 9 Series India availability
Google has been making its premium smartphones available in India for a long time now. This trend isn’t likely to change this year. This means that interested buyers should be able to purchase the Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro smartphones in India. Pixel 9 Pro is also listed on Google’s official store in India, which confirms its availability.
Google has also confirmed that unlike the Pixel Fold, it will bring the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to India. The post that the company shared on X (formerly Twitter) confirms that. The phone is also listed on Google’s official e-shop in India alongside the Pixel 9 Pro.
