- NASA cancels rover program: Mission halted due to cost overruns
- NASA has so far spent $450 million to develop the project
- NASA's lunar exploration and exploration program suffers a major setback due to financial problems
NASA's lunar mission has suffered a blow following reports that the financial condition of the US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is deteriorating. His project has been thrown into a quagmire due to extraordinary cost overruns and delays in the launch.
NASA has canceled the mission to land a rover on the moon considering such reasons. NASA's lunar exploration and exploration program has suffered a major setback due to financial problems. NASA has so far spent 450 million dollars to carry out this mission. Now that the project is stuck in the middle, the cost is likely to increase.
The rover was planned to be launched in 2023 on a lander by astrobotic technology. But in 2022, NASA announced a delay in the launch until late 2024. So that more time can be obtained for the pre-flight test of the Griffin Lander Vehicle. The rover's launch date was then extended to September 2025, raising the cost of the mission to an estimated $606.6 million. The rover was fully developed but not tested.
Several other projects were affected
“These kinds of decisions are not easy for us to make,” said Nicky Focus, associate administrator for NASA's science missions. Given the projected costs for our VIPER (Volatile Investigating Polar Exploration Rover) project, we had to cancel or temporarily halt some other missions. NASA's Artemis Lunar Rover (VIPER) was intended to search for ice and other resources at the Moon's south pole.
