Mumbai. The number of domestic air passengers in the country has increased by 5.76 percent to 1.32 crore in June. This number was 1.24 crore in the same month last year. This information came to light from the monthly data released on Tuesday. According to the June data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), budget airline IndiGo registered a market share of 60.5 percent by transporting 80.86 lakh people to their destinations. It was followed by Tata Group-operated Air India and Vistara, which transported 17.47 lakh and 12.84 lakh passengers respectively.
According to DGCA data, Air India's market share in June was 13.1 percent, while Vistara's share was 9.6 percent. Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines with a 51:49 percent stake. Another airline of the Tata Group, AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India), carried 7.70 lakh passengers last month. Thus its market share was 5.8 percent.
Thus, the three airlines of Tata Group had a share of 28.5 percent in the total domestic passenger transport market in June. DGCA data shows that SpiceJet carried 7.02 lakh passengers last month while Akasa Air flew with 5.90 lakh passengers. The share of these two airlines in the total domestic passenger traffic was 5.3 percent and 4.4 percent respectively. In June, Akasa Air operated the highest 79.5 percent flights on time from the country's four metropolitan airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, while only 46.1 percent of SpiceJet's flights were operated on time.
