Big allocation in the budget and possibility of improving railway services by the Government of India. Indian Railways, the lifeblood of the country, transport millions of people every day. But service is sometimes questioned, especially after recent accidents. In this context, the upcoming budget is likely to see major allocations for railways and steps to improve services.
Discount on tickets for senior citizens may return
A notable possibility is the re-introduction of 50% discount on train tickets for senior citizens. Before the Covid pandemic, men above 60 years and women above 58 years were eligible for this exemption. Many senior citizens have been affected by the closure of this exemption. It has become difficult for them to travel by train. Till the end of 2019, IRCTC offered this discount on Durant, Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Mail and Express trains.
Demands and expectations
Many senior citizens have demanded to bring back this exemption in the next budget. Their argument is that the increase in ticket prices has made it difficult for them to travel by train. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab said that ticket prices are already subsidized, but fresh concessions are being considered.
Awaiting decision
It is not yet certain whether the budget will bring back the concession on tickets for senior citizens. However, this is an important issue that will affect many people. Everyone is eagerly waiting for the government's decision.
