-One-way traffic closed on 158 road sections
Kathmandu, 23 July (HS). Due to floods and landslides in Nepal, nine highways of the country have been completely blocked while one-way traffic is being operated on 159 road sections. According to the data released by the Road Department, in the last 24 hours, nine highways have been completely blocked due to falling of large stones and debris from the mountains.
According to the department, Dumre-Bensishahar-Chame, Tansen-Redi-Korla, Pushpalal (Madhyapahari) Highway, the highway connecting Baglung and Doti are completely blocked. According to the road department, the work of removing landslides is going on at various places. The department has advised not to travel at night due to monsoon disasters like floods and landslides.
The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Water and Meteorology has informed that heavy rains are expected in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces in the next 24 hours. Due to this, there is a danger of floods in the rivers of these provinces. People in these areas have been advised to stay in safe places and travel only for essential work.
An alert has also been issued by the local administration to avoid the risk or damage of disasters such as flash floods, landslides and erosion in these areas due to heavy rains. The department has published information and requested to take necessary precautions due to the possibility of daily life including tourism, mountaineering, road and air transport being affected in these areas.
