4 lakh 22 thousand 245 students were allotted institute and subject wise seats in the first phase through the Centralized Admission Portal (CAP) in 477 government degree colleges and universities of the state.
Out of this, only 3 lakh 62 thousand students got admission, that is, about 60 thousand students got admission opportunity but did not get admission.
These 60,000 students will not get admission opportunity as they will not be able to upgrade their seats in the current phase (July 23-26).
It is believed that many did not show interest in taking admission in general degree colleges as the central counseling for admission to more than 44,000 seats in 83 engineering institutes through the state joint board began and the state joint successful students could enroll till Sunday.
Many did not understand the rules for admission through the uniform portal, thereby depriving themselves of their choice of college-subjects by making wrong preference lists.
The authorities of the higher education department said that these 60,000 students can apply again in the second phase from August 8-17. But then they have to choose their preferred college and subject properly.
What did education administrators and principals say about this?
Bhairav Ganguly College principal Subhranil Som said that if they apply correctly in the second phase, these students will get admission.
Partha Ghosh, admission coordinator of Bangvasi College, said many students made a mistake in choosing their preferred subject as it was their first time.
The authorities of higher education department said that there are 9 lakh 46 thousand 921 seats in total 7217 courses in the state. In the first phase, 5 lakh 27 thousand 781 people applied for admission in these institutions.
