New Delhi, November 19 (IANS). India has achieved an inspiring achievement. A 45-year-old Indian powerlifter has created a new world record at the recently held WPC World Championships and World Cup.
Delhi resident Daljit Singh has registered his name in the Masters category by performing a 300 kg squat at the WPC World Championship held in Manchester (UK) before pulling a 270 kg deadlift at the WPC World Cup in Kyrgyzstan.
The World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) World Championships were held from 31 October to 5 November, while the WPC World Cup was held from 18–19 November.
Daljeet, who is also the president of the India unit of the WPC, already has 22 international medals to her name, apart from holding five world records in powerlifting.
Daljeet, who has been honored by the governments of Kyrgyzstan and Egypt for his contribution to powerlifting and taking it forward by bringing together athletes from India, says he is focusing on his weight training with the aim of winning more medals in the times to come.
