Traders and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Delhi have planned to enjoy the final match of the Cricket World Cup with bumper discounts on products, screening of the match and ‘dhol nagaad’ (drums). The final match of the Cricket World Cup will be played between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Sunday. Shop owners across markets in Delhi are not expecting much business on Sunday as cricket fans are expected to watch the final match at their homes. Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal told PTI, “Most of the markets in Delhi will remain closed on Sunday and there will be a holiday-like atmosphere in the market.
In other areas, shop owners will install LED screens so that people can enjoy the match together. We expect hardly any business on that day.” Goyal said traders in the markets of Khan Market, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Greater Kailash, Karol Bagh, Rohini and Pitampura have made arrangements for passersby to enjoy the match. LED screen has been arranged. According to a CTI statement, special arrangements are also being made in hotels and restaurants. According to this, special dishes are also being prepared in the name of the players and some restaurants have made arrangements to seat more people for this special day. Many traders in Sarojini Nagar market said that if India wins the World Cup, they will give up to 50 percent discount on products.
Sarojini Nagar Market Association President Ashok Randhawa said that the sale of Indian jerseys has also increased. He said, “If Team India wins this World Cup, we will give up to 50 percent discount on our products. Also, we are planning to book a ‘Dhol’ band for the celebrations as firecrackers are banned in Delhi.” The RWA has also made arrangements with several housing societies for the match. He plans to watch the match on the big screen. Atul Goyal, president of United Residents Joint Action (URJA), the apex body of Delhi residential welfare associations, said that many societies will watch the match together. East Delhi RWA President B. S. Vohra said, “We will install a big screen to watch the match together. Special dishes will also be arranged for them.
President of Defense Colony RWA said, “If India wins, we will celebrate but no firecrackers will be burnt.” According to CTI, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Chawri Bazaar, Khari Baoli, Kashmiri Gate, Bhagirath Palace, Lajpat Rai Markets like Market, Naya Bazaar, Mori Gate will remain completely closed on Sunday. However, markets like Karol Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Greater Kailash, Rohini and Pitampura will remain open.
