27 companies including Dell, Foxconn, HP, Lenovo have been approved for the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware. Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information at an event held in Delhi today (Saturday, November 18).
The Union Minister said, ‘Out of these, 23 companies are ready to start manufacturing on zero day and 4 companies will start within 90 days. These 27 companies will provide direct employment to 50 thousand people and indirect employment to 1.50 lakh people.
Let us tell you that the Central Government had approved the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) scheme for IT hardware in May-2023. Under this scheme, companies will be given financial assistance of about Rs 17,000 crore. This will prove to be a big step to boost Make in India in IT hardware.
40 companies had applied for PLI scheme
Earlier, around 40 companies including Dell, HP and Lenovo had applied for the IT Hardware PLI Scheme with commitments to manufacture personal computers, laptops, tablets, servers and other equipment worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore during the scheme period.
These companies got approval
The companies that have been approved include Dell, Foxconn, HP, Lenovo Flextronics, VVDL, Neolink, Bhagwati, Netweb, Sahasra, ILP and Optimus, among others. Vaishnav further said that the facts of the companies which have not yet received approval are being checked and PLI will also come soon.
What is PLI scheme?
According to this scheme, the Center will give incentives on excess production and is allowing companies to export products made in India. The PLI scheme aims to promote domestic manufacturing of laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers and ultra-small form factor devices. In the first edition of the scheme, an incentive of up to 2% was provided on the net sales of domestically manufactured products. Now it has been increased to more than 5%.
Production of 100 billion dollars in the field of IT in the country
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that in the field of electronics manufacturing, production worth 100 billion dollars has been done in the country this year. Apart from this, a record number of mobile phones worth $11 billion were exported last year.
