1983 BCCI did not have that much money, Lata Mangeshkar became helpful
When the Indian team became world champion in 1983, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not have money to pay the players. Now the condition of BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world, was very bad at that time. The then BCCI President NKP Salve wanted to give awards to the players, but due to lack of money, he was helpless. Salve sought help from the nightingale Lata Mangeshkar to get out of this situation. To celebrate the victory of the Indian team, Lanta Mangeshkar concert was organized at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi. It earned Rs 20 lakh. Later, all the members of the Indian team were given Rs 1 lakh each as a reward.
Lata Mangeshkar sang many songs in that concert, but the song ‘Bharat Vishwa Vijeta’ was very much liked. The music of this song was given by Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar, while its lyrics were written by famous Bollywood lyricist ‘Indivar’. The special thing is that when Lata Mangeshkar was singing this song on the stage, the players of the Indian cricket team were also matching their tune with Lata ji from behind. Lata Mangeshkar did not take any fees from BCCI for this concert.
