Varanasi. Vicious fraudsters used to change the cards of people by placing a white metal strip on the place where money is withdrawn from the ATM machine and engaging people in conversation. After this they used to withdraw money from his account. Shivpur police has arrested three such accused. Along with interrogating him, legal action was taken and challan was issued.
A sweeper had seen three people removing money from the ATM of a bank in Shivpur by removing the white strip from the withdrawal slot. He tried to catch all three, but they escaped after threatening the sweeper. The sweeper complained about this to the police. Shivpur police started searching for the three. With the help of CCTV camera footage, all three were caught near Shivpur railway station.
Prafulla Kumar Verma, resident of Sonarpura Tola, Zamania town of Ghazipur district, Mohammad Sabbir Ahmed of Khajura, Azamgarh and Amitabh alias Amtab of Amrauna of Jaunpur district, who were caught by the police, said that all three used to go to the ATM together. Seeing the ATM empty, they used to put their metal strip at the place where money was withdrawn. The money used to withdraw money from this used to get stuck.
When the person got upset and went away when the money was not withdrawn, all three would reach there and remove the bandage and take out the money. If someone was already staying in the ATM room, then on the pretext of helping him, they would engage him in conversation and change the ATM card. There are 15 cases registered against Mohammad Sabbir in different districts, six against Amitabh and three against Prafulla.
