The final of the ODI World Cup 2023 is to be played between India and Australia. This match will be organized in the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. India and Australia are playing the final match of an ICC tournament after 20 years. Where both the teams will be just one step away from the world title after 48 matches. The Indian team is considered to be the favorite for this match. However, they will not make the mistake of taking five-time world champion Australia lightly. Meanwhile, ICC has announced the names of all the umpires for the World Cup final match.
These umpires got responsibility
ICC has named Richard Kettleborough, Richard Illingworth and Joel Wilson to officiate in the final match of the ODI World Cup 2023. Zimbabwe’s Andy Pycroft will be the match referee in the final match between India and Australia on Sunday, 19 November. English umpires Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth have been named as on-field umpires, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Joel Wilson will have the responsibility of third umpire. Former Zimbabwean cricketer Andy Pycroft will be present as the match referee in the final.
Team India’s history with these two umpires has not been good.
Both Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth officiated in the India vs New Zealand semi-final match in 2019. Where Team India had to face defeat. However, Richard Illingworth was one of the on-field umpires during India’s win over the Kiwis in the 2023 semi-final clash in Mumbai on November 15. Kettleborough umpired alongside India’s Nitin Menon in the semi-final match between Australia and South Africa played in Kolkata. In the first semi-final match between India and New Zealand, Joel Wilson was the third umpire and Andy Pycroft was the match referee. Illingworth has also been part of the umpire panel for the last two ODI World Cups and was part of the England team that finished runner-up in 1992.
Kettleborough also officiated in the final between Australia and New Zealand in Melbourne in 2015. Kettleborough umpired his 100th ODI during the Sri Lanka vs Netherlands game in this World Cup and built a reputation as one of the best officials in international cricket. Kettleborough and Illingworth were both included in the ICC International Umpires List on the same day in 2019 and both won the Umpire of the Year award in their illustrious careers.
