ChatGPT maker OpenAI’s board ousted CEO Sam Altman late Friday. He is also the co-founder of the company. Meera Murthy, chief technology officer of OpenAI, will serve as interim CEO for the time being. The company has said it will search for a permanent CEO. The announcement surprised Open AI employees, who learned about the major management shakeup from the company’s blog. OpenAI has written in its blog that, ‘The board of the company has decided to remove Altman from the position after much deliberation. In the review, board members concluded that Sam was fired because he had not been clear in his communications with them. Along with this, due to their attitude, the board is facing difficulty in fulfilling its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in Altman’s abilities, so he must resign from his position. OpenAI introduced its ChatGPT chatbot in November last year. It has become the fastest growing software application in the world.
Sam Altman gave his first reaction on social media platform X (Twitter) after being removed as CEO of OpenAI. He wrote in a post, ‘I really enjoyed my time at OpenAI. It was a little transformative for me personally and hopefully for the world. I also loved working with such talented people. Now much remains to be said about what I will do next. Big tech companies like Microsoft have invested over $30 billion in OpenAI. The company has also integrated ChatGPT into its search engine ‘Bing’.
OpenAI president Greg Brockman also left the company
Following the resignation of Sam Altman, OpenAI president Greg Brockman also left the company. “I’m proud of what we’ve built together since we started in my apartment eight years ago,” he wrote in a post on social media platform X (Twitter). We have been together through difficult and wonderful times. Despite all these factors it should have been impossible to achieve this, but based on today’s news I have resigned.
