Dhaka, 18 November (Tezzbuzz). Nazmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh in the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gave the above information on Saturday.
Nazmul will become Bangladesh’s 13th Test captain when the first Test of the series begins in Sylhet on November 28.
BCB Chairman of Cricket Operations Jalal Younis said, Nazmul Hossain will lead the team in the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand.
Test team vice-captain Liton Das wanted to leave the New Zealand series to be with his family. Regular Test captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the series due to a fracture in his finger during the World Cup match against Sri Lanka.
Younis told Cricbuzz, he (Litton) wanted a month off and did not want to play two Tests because he wanted to give time to his family. We have allowed this because we cannot pressure any player to play. We wanted him to play the second Test but he insisted that he wanted to give time to his family for a month.
“He wanted to be with his newborn baby and his wife and as he had requested several times, we agreed to his request,” Yunus said.
He said that he is not sure whether he will be available for the white ball series after the Test series.
He further said, if a cricketer does not want to play, then in that case you cannot put him in the national team because it should come from the heart that ‘I want to play for my country’ and he should know that he is available or No. No.”
Meanwhile, West Indies’ Corey Collymore, who is currently working as the fast bowling coach with the BCB High Performance Unit, will replace Allan Donald (who recently stepped down) for the two Test matches against New Zealand. Lenge, while High Performance Unit head coach David Hemp is also expected to join the team management group.
The BCB is expected to sit in the coming days to evaluate the performance in the World Cup and may also appoint a committee to find out the reason for their failure in the tournament.
