Kamal Nath was born on 18 November 1946 in Khalsi Line, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. His early education was also completed in Kanpur. Kamal Nath’s father Mahendra Nath and Leela Nath wanted to educate their son and become a lawyer. Later, Kamal Nath’s parents left Kanpur and went to Calcutta. After which Kamal Nath did graduation in commerce from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. Then in the year 2006, Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur honored him with a doctorate degree.
political career
In 1968, he joined Congress and in 1976, Kamal Nath got the charge of Uttar Pradesh Youth Congress. After which he remained a member of the National Council of All India Youth Congress till 1970-81. In the year 1979, Kamal Nath was elected MP from Chhindwara for the first time. After this he was elected to Lok Sabha in the years 1984, 1990, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.
