World Cup 2023 : England’s 2019 World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan believes that the influence of India captain Rohit Sharma has played an important role in keeping the team apart from other teams.
Hosts India have won all 10 matches so far in the tournament. They are aiming to end their 10-year drought by clinching their third ODI World Cup title and second on home soil after the 2011 win.
Eoin Morgan wrote in his column for ICC on Saturday, “India has been unbeaten in all 10 matches. Virat Kohli leads the run chart and Mohammed Shami is the highest wicket-taker. The performance of the team has been excellent. However, what sets this Indian team apart is the influence of captain Rohit Sharma.”
Apart from being a shrewd captain with his bowling variations and fielding placements, Rohit has also been in excellent form with the bat. He has scored 550 runs at an average of 55 and strike rate of 124.15. Their aggressive start in the first 10 overs has meant that India have been the best batting team in this phase of the game with a run rate of 6.9.
Australia, who are on an eight-match unbeaten streak after losing their first two matches. He is eyeing his sixth World Cup title and is now playing his eighth final.
Morgan feels that the Pat Cummins-led side is capable of stopping the winning Indian juggernaut and their ability to perform under pressure is important.
