New Delhi: Former Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) S Venkataraman has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 92. He was suffering from many serious diseases. Venkataraman was the 18th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and served from 1990 to 1992. Venkatraman also served as Finance Secretary in the Ministry of Finance from 1985 to 1989. He is survived by two daughters, Girija and Sudha.

After assuming the post of Governor of RBI, he also remained the Governor. The RBI report said that the country faced many external problems during his tenure as governor. But due to his efficient management he was successful in bringing India’s debt balance out of the crisis. India played an important role in the functioning of IMF.
